My default apps starting 2025

There have been many lovely events in the Internet over the years and one to cherish especially is the one where users simply blog about their favorite standard apps they are using.

Niklas, a lucky German who has managed to live in Norway (yes, I'm definitely jealous of him!) shared his list here back in 2024. After looking into what it was all about, I discovered Robb Knight's site and his “App Defaults” project.

Here, he initiated and collected RSS feeds from people on the web who say exactly which standard apps / services they use. Although this is a pretty simple idea in itself, it seems to be one of the lively and positive things on the World Wide Web these days and reason enough for me to write it down for myself:

Since the year 2025 is still young, but is already accompanied by emerging political unrest here in Germany (and actually everywhere else in the world) coupled with a rather dissatisfied population, there are definitely some more serious things to deal with this year. But I think it's worth looking beyond our own (digital) horizons here too!


Anyway, it's quite fun to create this list and see how it will evolve over time, as needs and use cases may change as they have over the years - so aside from the really serious happenings on the planet, this one is a welcome relief!
